Hi - our 8 yr old son suddenly had high blood sugar today (539) while playing at school. He wasn't able to breath at recess and we got a call from school. We checked his ketones and it was very high at 80. He got diagnosed last year Sept with type 1 and is on a pump since last 4 months. He does go low sometimes but never got ketones until today. We gave him an injection, he isn't feeling well all day and is very tired, at school wasn't able to think or talk properly suddenly ( and can understand that's from high sugar). We gave him water and after the injection his ketones came down to 40 range within an hour. He is on a 630 pump. We did check with docs and they suggested lots of water. just wanted to share here and get any suggestions of how to prevent this from happening and if anyone has experienced this before ? this is his first time with such high ketones. He was completely ok till today morning and was fine going to school. We are 1 year experienced as T1 parents now, but this ketosis experience is new to us, any recommendations or suggestions please ? Did anyone else have similar symptoms, we are worried if the pump had failed etc.
I'm a dad supporting a child with type 1 diabetes since 2016.
