Go to the school and talk with the principal and tell them that she needs to have her blood sugar tested. They can't say no because it's against the law. Throughout school I was always given a red pass that allowed me to go to the clinic and take care of my diabetes when ever I needed to and the teachers couldn't say no

Go to school and ask for a 504 plan. That should start process rolling for these issues. ****is absolutely right. If you need help with what a 504 is or a sample, the ADA has one on their website

I asked for a 504 the school counselor told me that it was for mentally disabled children and that Kenley did not need one she is the only kid with T1d at the school

And that maybe I needed to homeschool her for a while until we got this under control

As a former educator in schools who has worked with 504s, they are mistaken. Grab a copy from the website, fill out, and talk to principal. If not, contact ADA for additional help. School should not d

I feel your pain on that. I had similar issue when I was a kid newly diagnosed with diabetes. Very similar issue.

Well the school is not correct. I was the only t1d in my middle school too and all of the teachers had to be trained on type 1 diabetes so that they could understand it better. It sounds like your school is not treating it the way it should be. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease and needs to be taken care of at all times and if the school is not allowing you to do that they are wrong and breaking the law as well

Tell counselor you are only asking for a 504, not an IEP. IEPs are for those students with mentally disabled students.
