Hi! I am 31 years old and just diagnosed with type one. I go back to my endo and begin insulin on Wednesday. I can't believe at this age I am being diagnosed with diabetes. I am so confused and have so many questions after reading all of these posts.
Check your blood sugar, count your carbs ( or exchanges, whichever your doctor suggests), and give yourself the right amount of insulin. It gets easier I promise
I understand carb counting as I had gestational diabetes last year. It was tough though. What are exchanges?

I recently learned that women that have gestational diabetes are at a higher risk of getting T1 even if it goes away after delivery.
That's exactly what happened to me. My first pregnancy was totally normal. But my second I always had protein in my urine, so they tested me for gestational diabetes and I came back positive twice. I could not even manage it with a very strict diet and finally went on medication. I only gained 9 total pounds through the entire pregnancy I was so strict.

I have been diabetic thru 2 pregnancies and it is more difficult (for me anyway) to control while pregnant. I'm hoping it's easier for you now that you are not pregnant. This disease sucks and you are lucky to have gone thru your teens and 20's without it. You should also look into pump therapy, it does make it easier to manage (for me).
Living with type 1 diabetes since 2007.
Believe it or not I was diagnosed with type 1 at age 61!! It sucks just as badly at any age. The pump really is the way to go. It makes it so much easier to go through your daily routine
I asked my endo yesterday about a pump. Since I am just ending the "honeymoon" period my pancreas has not totally stopped working so she said once that happens and we get my sugar better managed I can
Go to the pump.
I thought it was crazy that I was 31 and bring diagnosed. I guess it can happen at any age.
