where people touched by diabetes help each other.

How likely is it to have a type 1 kid? I want to have kids but I feel like they are doomed to have type 1 like me. Do you have kids? Do any have T1 too?

Let me clarify it they have a 3% chance of being type 1 so that is a 96% of not. Getting it

I believe it's 3% if the mother is type 1 and 2% if the father is type 1. I am a type 1 mother of two, ages 10 & 16, with no signs of diabetes. There has been an amazing amount of research done t1d exchange and others. Pregnancy is difficult for t1d moms, but motherhood is a constant challenge...

Children are worth any challenge, but please make sure you have strong support system to get you through the rough patches diabetes will throw at you. And plan ahead w/ a high risk specialist.

...when I was young. I was told I could never have children because it would kill me. Planning and technology made my dreams of motherhood come true, but it is a constant challenge...much more than I could have understood. Having said that, I wouldn't change my decision for the world! 💗

I have no family history of T1d besides myself. My daughter is 17 and doesn't have it. There are several blogs I read of moms with t1d, SixUntilMe, and Texting My Pancreas. Check them out. Good luck.

Type 1 diabetes is a paternal trait when caused genetically however the chances of it happening are extremely low(3% is pretty accurate). The chances greatly increase of both you and your husband are type 1 diabetics and even greater if either or both of you have a genetic link to type 1 diabetes.

Chances are also greatly increased if you are not well controlled and do not manage tightly throughout pregnancy as well as making sure that you lower your A1c before trying to get pregnant.
