where people touched by diabetes help each other.

Looking for suggestions to keep my growing 13 yr old son fed and not feeling hungry all the time so he doesn't feel like he has to sneak food.

I think I've heard more protein helps feel full longer also the higher the sugar the more hungry he will feel so try and keeps sugars controlled trust I know easier said than done also I try and stack up on carb free food such a cheese meat diet Soda etc good luck

Our daughter diagnosed at twelve. Restricted carbs. She played sports and it does not work. The doctor finally said feed her. We then let her eat anything she wanted and then there was no reason to sneak. She is 19 now and still eats anything she wants and is doing great. No she is not over weight and yes has a good A1C. Spend your time helping count the carbs so the he can be healthy.

We share a similar outcome as****posted. Our son was diagnosed at age 5 and spent much of his childhood with restricted carbs and low sugar foods. He has been an athlete and we got to the point it was better to have him eat whatever and whenever he wanted as long as it was covered by insulin doses. I look back and wish that had been the plan from the onset. He is now almost 20.

We have never restricted carbs. He has never sneaked. Let them eat.

I try to tell my son the same thing and he is even on the Omni pod so it's as simple as pressing a button. And he is a gamer so pressing buttons isn't a problem. I don't know if it's lazy or he just is hating that he has diabetes.

Send them to a diabetic summer camp. 300+ kids all the same. They come back feeling normal.
