I think it's because a lot of the grease and fat absorb some of the insulin.

The fat in the pizza slow the carb absorption. Run a dual or square wave bolus. I've been diabetic for 33 years and I love pizza!

what are the most effective percentages when using the dual and square wave bolus?

It depends on you and what you are covering.

There are several studies on pizza. All conclude you need to use extended boluses. Search PubMed for "pizza diabetes bolus" for citations.

What works for my daughter (for now) is using a carb factor of .32 carbs per gram (weight) for pizza. She boluses for one slice at the beginning. She boluses for each additional piece after she eats it. This has been working for about a year.

I hear a lot of people have this problem. We are newly dx and haven't had this problem though.
