where people touched by diabetes help each other.

hi. I am looking at starting a family. I tried 5 years ago and miscarried at 3 months. If anyone has kids and are type1 I would be grateful for some advice

There are some great resources that helped me through both of my pregnancies. TuDiabetes.org/groups/ohbaby and Positive Type 1 Diabetic Pregnancies on FB. JDRF has an amazing pregnancy toolkit you can download. And the book Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-Existing Diabetes by Cheryl Alkon is pretty fabulous. Remember that miscarriages happen to everyone - not just people with type 1. Don't blame yourself and do your best to have great habits and tight control before getting started. It took me a long time to get my a1c down near 6, but it cuts your risks to that of anyone else. Totally worth the effort.

I fell pregnant whilst not knowing that I was type 1 diabetic and they told me that I could've miscarried as my blood sugars were so high, so I'm really sorry for your loss.. If your bloods are under control, a1c is down too, and there are no fertility issues/ weight is just right you will find it much easier to fall pregnant! It won't just be your diabetes although I know it can feel like that! I hope you can start a family soon xxxx

Feel your pain - lost a baby to complications from diabetes less than 6 months ago. Hopefully we will both be successful in starting a family x

I hope so too, sorry for your loss xx

Typeonenation.com is a social network for type ones. They have a good pregnancy group there that can offer advice and support (including fertility issues)

I'm type 1. I have two kids, a son who is 8 and a daughter who is 2. I had a difficult time with then both but the second was easier because I was on a pump. I had to have them both via csection.
