I usually try and have some type of protein before working out. I usually don't set a basal and I usually run between 24-36mi a week. I run in the am and end up taking 1-2 units after working out since BS usually rises shortly after. I'm averaging 20units a day for bolus and 21 for basal. As long as I take my insulin w meals at least 5-10min before eating my total daily amount of insulin is considerably lower.
