where people touched by diabetes help each other.

Hi all, My partner and I are hoping to try and start conceiving around the new year. I am trying to avoid the internet as much as possible for any advice about being pregnant with type one diabetes. So I am hoping that there may be someone in my area that knows of any good clinic, OBGYN, or Endos in the area that you would recommend for a type one trying to get pregnant for the first time. Thanks guys!

Hi**** I don't live in your area but I thought I would offer some hope/information. My cousin has been T1 since she was 19 yo and she recently gave birth to her 4th child. The first three she didn't even use a pump. She lives in Ireland and was part of a program there designed to help T1 diabetics have health pregnancies. The Irish Times wrote a story about the program recently and featured her in it. When you do find a OBGYN you may want to ask them if they are familiar with this. Here is a link to the story. http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/parenting/making-delivery-as-sweet-as-possible-for-people-with-diabetes-1.####

I am type 1 and had 2 sons. First one on shots and 2nd on a pump. They are age 15 and 20 now and healthy. I saw an obstetrician and my endocrinologist during both pregnancies. You can do it, just keep a close eye on your sugars. Didn't have cgms back then so I checked my blood sugars a lot. Now a cgm could make things easier. Hope this helps. I am in NC

I would recommend Dr Elizabeth Reilly for an endo. She's out of Seattle and Lynnwood VM.
