where people touched by diabetes help each other.

We live in S. Florida...my 6-year old boy was diagnosed 6 weeks ago. Any thoughts on summer camp (one with a nurse to administer insulin) besides the diabetes camp?

With the camps you really have to call each one. Most won't accept such a young t1. There are some awesome t1 camps and most have financial aid as well. They are a lot of fun!

Yes, there is a 1-week one in my area and a 2-week one a little farther away....but I really want to put him in a regular camp. I've been calling around and so far only found only one camp with an actual nurse and they're calling me back to see if she will let administer.

I'm in Miami. My 6 year old is T1. She goes to regular camp. I call and ask if they will take a child with diabetes and go from there.

Thank you! Can you tell me what camp it is?

Both of these are Jewish camps that we have affiliation with. My daughter has a pump so we aren't asking anyone to inject which makes it easier. Last summer was Beth Torah but they don't have a nurse. This summer it's the JCC in North Miami Beach. They do have a nurse.

Thanks again - will look into it. Plan B is paying someone to take care of him during the summer but he'll miss the interaction with other kids.

You might be able to instead get an aide to shadow him at camp so he can still have the fun
