where people touched by diabetes help each other.

I just don't know what to do anymore.. I just got out of the hospital today almost going into DKA. I went to the Reds game and my insulin from my pump wasn't absorbing so my blood sugar was in like the 3-400's. After I got some I got some food and checked my blood sugar again and it was 131.. I took insulin the the food I ate and 3 hours later I checked again to see how it was doing and now my blood sugar is 482. I don't understand what is going on or what to do?

It's called a yo-yo affect. I am learned it form myself. I do not know the science behind it but take small amounts of insulin when blood sugar goes up. Like half the normal amount. And slowly bring down your blood sugar to normal range. Shooting down and shooting up is way more damaging to your body then staying high for 30 more minutes. πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

What about using a CGM so you can see the trends before they get too far out of range.

Watch out for foods that are high on the glycemic index. They can raise you bg faster than your insulin kicks in and you can end up high when you took the correct insulin dose. Pretzels for example are very very high on the GI and cause me to soar out of range.

How do you guys know that "you are in DKA"? Do you check for ketones? And what bg level do you get concerned enough to check?

I was sleeping and my high woke me up at like 7 in the morning and I threw up and I got sick like every 15 minutes. And checked my blood sugar and it was in the 400's and then I decided to check for ketones and they were like moderate and then I corrected my blood sugar and it went down a little but I still checked my ketones again and they were large and I couldn't stop getting sick so I went to the hospital. My blood sugars are normally in the 2-300's (because I'm not good at controlling my diabetes) so usually I'm kinda used to it. But I just start feeling really sick.
