Hi, I have type 1 diabetes. I'm using an insulin pump. If my bg is 200 and I take 4 units of humalog, I'll be at 60 in no time. But if my bg is 400 or so, I will have to take 26 units or so to get it down to the 100s. Why such a huge difference in how much insulin I need? I can never use the sliding scale.

that's a question I would take to your endocrinologist. she had to make several adjustments over a couple of months to get it right.

Thanks! I was once told to use the sliding scale of 1 unit per 50 numbers high, but I've even had dka several times because of using that scale.

The high the Bg the more insulin resistance there is. But defamatory sounds like you may need a better isf and then just knowing when above 300-400 u will expect to need more. Much of it also has to do with time of your basal rates are set correct through out the day, what your eating/doing so many factors

Thank you very much, that explains this problem completely. Do you know how common this is? I've had nurses argue that such a dose of insulin is ridiculous, but that's all that works for me.
