Hello, I'm starting crossfit in a couple if weeks and I was wondering if anyone has insight on how to keep blood sugar balanced during the work outs. Thanks! 😊

hey.. I did crossfit for a whole year.. It usually made me spike so high after workout even though I was in perfect range (70-120) during..and would crash about 4 hours later.. I have a lot of T1D friends who crossfit and they all reacted differently, it's really a trial and error process.. I would suggest you try it out early on in the day so you can monitor your blood sugar levels for up to 7 hours later (instead of crashing in the middle of the night).. My doctor asked me to stop because I was trying to get pregnant and needed an A1c of below 6 and crossfit was making it tricky to do that but I'm definitely going back once I deliver.. Good luck!! it's the most painful and amazing iv ever done hehe

Thanks for your responses! The spikes worry me a little. I like to stay in tight control and I'm worried that it may increase my A1C.

just be careful not to fully correct for the post workout spikes because it's usually caused by adrenaline.. try small corrections at first until you figure out what works.. a cgm helps a lot too..

Thanks! That's how I tend to eat anyway. Do you eat a snack before you begin or ever have IOB (insulin on board)?

Drink a small protein shake that has some carbs in it for your pre workout. This will help keep your sugar levels at a good medium, as most T1D glucose level will fall extremely fast during workouts.

For me, this sometimes isn't enough to keep my BG above 70. Carry a small protein bar and some Gatorade just in case. What gym are you going to train at?

Thanks**** Is this for crossfit work outs specifically or just for work outs in general? That strategy works well for me with weight lifting or some kind of cardio.
