Hi. I have a question. How long did it take your second to be full blown insulin dependent after being diagnosed early?

2 part answer. She was identified as high risk and dx glucose impaired 30 months before her dx with A1c of 5.5. after dx we put Dexcom on her and decided to start insulin 3 or 4 months later with a whopping 0.60 basal only for daytime hours. we slowly increased basal and incorporated bolus insulin.

within a year of dx probably more like 9 months we were counting every carb and bolusing.

My son was diagnosed almost a year ago. He is 13. My daughter is 11 and about 4 months ago started showing symptoms like bed wetting. Weight loss and drinking a ton of water. Also crazy mood swings. We started checking blood sugar and in a month her a1c went from 5.4 to 6.3 so we started a low dose of lantus. 5 units a day. All of a sudden her blood sugar was consistently between 90 and 95. So we stopped taking it after about 2 weeks. And since then she had been perfectly fine for about 3 months like nothing ever happened.

We have a follow up in two weeks at the endocrinologist. I'm wondering if I should sign up for trial net so they can use the data as we figure out what's going on.

when my youngest was identified as high risk we entered her into the oral insulin double blinded study. she had Ogtt's as part of the study. glucose impaired is a lab value over 140. a normal non d should usually stay under 140, with a heavy glucose load up to 180, but rarely. she was going over 140 often.

my youngest had NO clinical signs or symptoms at her dx. No bed wetting, no weight loss, normal growth, no excess drinking or urination. The m on vlunxal things I saw were mood swings. but she was 5 and just started school, after we put the Sexcom.on her we saw that she was getting stuck high for awhile and then coming crashing down all on her own before we started insulin. starting insulin helped greatly.
