where people touched by diabetes help each other.

Trying to figure out how to change my eating habits and feel overwhelmed. What are tips/tricks you wish someone had told you about how to eat right after being diagnosed?

Tips anyone? How should I use my meter/testing to find what is ok to eat? I'm just kind of guessing at this point...

Protein!!! I buy rotisserie chicken from Cosco .. I shred it up and take all the skin off.. I make sandwiches and salads or eat pieces cold for a snack

Have raw almonds on hand for a snack... Broth based soup w chicken and veggies is good too!! I always grab a salad if I'm in a hurry from drive through.. No croutons... Dressing is ok

Preparing meals ahead also helps and stay hydrated! Water and iced tea... Or crystal light..

I'll have a baked potatoe with my salads for dinner... A little sour cream or I put ranch dressing on it.. I make my own ranch dressing .. Buy hidden valley packets.. I use Greek yogurt and sour cream

I had a hard time at first adjusting. But I stay on a 60carb diet. And it has worked for me

Wish I'd known that fat suppresses appetite AND slows down carb absorption. Same for fiber.

Don't think of it as diabetic diet, more as healthy eating. More vegetables & finding out what makes your blood sugar spike. Smaller portions are better
